Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic met in Brussels on Friday with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to discuss energy issues and the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We discussed strengthening energy security, diversifying energy sources and Croatia’s important role as an energy hub for oil and gas distribution in this part of Europe,” Plenković posted on the social media platform X.

He added that they also “touched on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where it is essential to ease political tensions, maintain stability and continue reforms on the European path.”

On Thursday, Plenkovic took part in an EU summit where the leaders of member states committed to decisively strengthening European defence by 2030 and enhancing economic competitiveness. Once again, 26 EU member states, excluding Hungary, reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.

Following the summit, Plenkovic stated that EU leaders would hold a serious discussion on recent developments in Southeast Europe at their next meeting.

“I signalled to my colleagues that we need to have a serious discussion at the next European Council meeting about the situation in our neighbourhood, given the recent developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, which was accepted,” Plenkovic said after the EU summit in Brussels.
