Situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is very complex and difficult, Chairman of Bosnia's three-member Presidency Sefik Dzaferovic told N1 speaking from Brussels, where he departed to, as he said, explain the situation to the European Union's officials and ask for their help.

Dzaferovic already met with representatives of all political groups in the European Parliament and the Parliament speaker, while the meetings with the European Commission President and European Council President are scheduled for the following days.

“The situation is very complex, difficult. It is threatening and could evolve into destabilisation of security situation. I came here to ask for help for Bosnia and Herzegovina, to ask for support. Our institutions are blocked, that's obvious violation of the Dayton agreement (a peace deal which ended the Bosnian 1992-95 war and introduced the country's constitutional set-up),” Dzaferovic said speaking to N1 live from Brussels.

He stressed that there are attempts to annul the reforms of judiciary, defence, tax system, healthcare system, which “must be stopped immediately.”

Dzaferovic also said that the entity parliament of Bosnia's Serb-majority entity Republika Srpska must put out of force all of its decisions that attack Bosnia and Herzegovina and he called for a constructive work in the institutions.

Asked what are his expectations from the meetings in Brussels, the Presidency Chairman said that he is trying to present the situation objectively and ask for the EU's help.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country on the path towards the EU membership, Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country on the NATO path, and Bosnia and Herzegovina needs the help of the EU and all our friends in the world at this moment to unblock the institutions before anything else and to put out of force the RS National Assembly's conclusions. The EU can do a lot, we have seen some serious discussions in the parliament, serious conclusions of the European Council,” he noted.

He stressed that the state is not functional at the moment, which must change with the help of the EU.

Dzaferovic said he also spoke about the security situation in the country in his meetings with the EU officials, welcoming the increased military presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“I believe that this military presence should be even stronger than the one we have today. It is better to prevent than need to put the fire out,” he added.

As for the request to accelerate Bosnia's EU accession procedure, Dzaferovic noted it is “hypocritical” to convey such request and then reject set of laws that are mentioned among 14 priorities of the European Commission's Opinion on Bosnia's membership application.
