"Republika Srpska has sufficient capacities to produce incidents"

The political and security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is tense ahead of the first-instance verdict for Milorad Dodik, the President of BiH's Republika Srpska (RS) entity. Inflammatory political speeches from the RS have become a daily occurence, and Bosniak representative in the RS National Assembly (NSRS) Ramiz Salkic warned that the threats coming from Dodik and his supporters should not be underestimated.

Salkic argued that RS and Serbia have been looking for any excuse to radicalize the situation in BiH for a long time.
"We should not underestimate the intentions of the authorities in this entity and Serbia to destabilize the situation in BiH, and they will use this verdict, if it is a conviction, as an argument, as a pretext for such actions. In fact, for all these years, they have been looking for any reason to radicalize the situation and attempt to achieve their unrealized wartime goals, in the sense of occupying this part of BiH, politically or in any other way. The threats we hear from Mr. Viskovic, that in a few days it will be decided whether BiH will exist or not, can be seen as a kind of pressure on the Court of BiH itself to make a favorable decision for them. If it is a conviction, and I hope it will be, I believe there will be a political crisis, but provoking incidents would cause more harm to this entity," Salkic said.
He emphasised that trust should be placed in BiH institutions.
"RS has certain capacities that are sufficient to produce incidents, but they are not enough for anything beyond that," he stated, adding that the state Prosecutor's Office must document all inflammatory statements.
"The Prosecutor's Office of BiH must document all these individuals who are doing what they are doing and initiate certain proceedings and investigative actions against them, making it clear that they cannot act the way they do and speak without accountability the way they do. The great responsibility here lies with the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, its employees, and prosecutors, to document this and ensure that all these individuals are prosecuted once this case is concluded," he stated.
