High Representative Christian Schmidt presented his report on the state of affairs in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the today's session of UN Security Council, triggering critics from ambassadors of Russian Federation and China.
Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya sharply criticized Schmidt, saying that he “creates mistrust among peoples and does everything to turn Bosnia into a colonial community.” He stated that Schmidt should not sit in the Security Council because he “lacks the support of the constituent peoples.”
“The most important thing is that he also lacks the mandate of the Security Council. Therefore, he should not sit here. He discredits the work of this body. Schmidt presents a biased picture, and I hope that the Council will decide to close the OHR,” he said.
Chinese Ambassador Geng Shuang criticized the report of the High Representative in Bosnia, stating that some details “do not correspond to the facts.”
Shuang stated that Schmidt's claims in the report that Bosnia's foreign policy is better coordinated today than before do not correspond to the fact, citing as an argument the lack of a collective decision by the Presidency of BiH regarding the resolution on Srebrenica.
Furthermore, the Chinese ambassador concluded that “the peoples in Bosnia should independently decide on foreign policy” and that “the system of the High Representative and the Bonn powers cannot be a permanent category.”
