Serbs have an “obligation to love, respect, protect and defend” Republika Srpska (RS), one of Bosnia’s two semi-autonomous entities, the President of the National Assembly of Serbia, Vladimir Orlic, said at the ceremonial academy marking the unconstitutional January 9 “Day of Republika Srpska”.
Orlic spoke about the relationship between Serbia and the RS entity and about cooperation on a number of projects, including the construction of hydropower plants and airports.
“Today's Serbia knows that the Serbian people and the Republic of Serbia first and foremost have an obligation to love, respect, protect and defend the Republika Srpska,” he said, adding that Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, is now “taking care of the RS”.
He commented on what the ruling Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) in the RS calls “obstructions” from Sarajevo regarding projects between the entity and Serbia.
“Ask them to explain to you what is wrong when we build new kindergartens, and schools, as we do together. Let them explain what is wrong with cultural centres, clinics, roads, and the endless series of communal projects that we realize together. There is nothing wrong with that, and that is exactly what they can see as the result of our work in the RS, but also throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. The same can be said for airports and hydropower plants because every new investment ensures a job for a worker without asking who they are, what they are, it puts food on the table for their families,” Orlic said.
He stated that Serbs “learned their lessons from history”.
“Everyone's future depends on what will be important to us in it and what we will declare as success tomorrow. Is it that we are going toward new conflicts, and divisions, or are we going to consider new projects, investments, new jobs and new technologies as success? We are completely committed to the latter. We choose to look to the future,” he said.
