European Parliament is set to discuss the annual report on the implementation of the common foreign and security policy in the plenary session scheduled for next week. The report was on behalf of the Committee on Foreign Affairs submitted by European Parliament member David McAllister and its part refers to the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Commenting on the situation in the Western Balkans, McAllister put special emphasis on the developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The report calls for EU engagement with the countries in the Western Balkans to find solutions to the problems impeding further reforms, including the implementation of the 14 key priorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina ensuring the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
It underlines the importance of European integration of these partner states for the stability and security of the continent as a whole. It calls for the EU to suport civil society in the Western Balkans in promoting and disseminating European values, commends the work of EUFOR's Operation Althea, which contributes to peace, stabilisation and the European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Also, it reiterates the fact that this mission continues to play a pivotal role for the security and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
Finally, it highlights – in the light of a possible future enlargement – the need for more efficient decision-making at EU level.
