A team from Sarajevo participated in the rescue of six people who were trapped under debris in the ruins of a five-story building in Iskenderun, in the Turkish province of Hatay, for 102 hours after the devastating earthquakes.
Numerous rescue teams continue their search and rescue efforts in Hatay and, on Friday morning, rescuers heard voices from under the ruins of the building.
They were informed that two families, a total of eight people, remained under the ruins. With enormous efforts, they managed to pull six people out of the ruins, including the married couple Yasemin and Kadir Oktay.
Members of the mountain rescue service of Novi Grad in Sarajevo participated in the rescue operation. A total of 20 of them, headed by Fahrudin Dobraca, travelled to Turkey two days ago to help Turkish citizens affected by the earthquake. The team also helped local rescuers save a 70-year-old man in Hatay on Thursday.
There are more people under the ruins of the same building, so rescue teams are continuing their operation.
