UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina on an official visit this evening, where he immediately met with the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elmedin Konakovic. During the meeting, Konakovic warned Lammy about the secessionist actions of Republika Srpska entity President Milorad Dodik. In response, Lammy reiterated that the United Kingdom respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and strongly condemns all secessionist moves by the RS leadership.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the two officials discussed bilateral relations, the country's current political situation, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration processes, and regional cooperation.

Konakovic emphasised that Bosnia and Herzegovina values Lammy’s visit at this crucial and challenging time for the country. He highlighted the vital importance of the United Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to the stability and security of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Konakovic also expressed gratitude for the UK’s proactive engagement and its strong, continuous support for the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

He hoped the UK would continue supporting BiH institutions in implementing reforms, strengthening the rule of law, and protecting democratic values. Konakovic also addressed the current political and security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, warning of what he described as a brutal attack by Republika Srpska’s leadership, headed by Milorad Dodik, on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina—an attack that, he said, threatens peace and stability both in the country and the wider region.

In this context, Konakovic reaffirmed that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path toward the European Union has no alternative and remains a top priority for the country’s pro-European political actors.

Foreign Secretary Lammy reaffirmed that the United Kingdom strongly condemns the secessionist actions of RS President Milorad Dodik and the entity's leadership. He emphasised his country’s firm support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as for the preservation of peace and security. Lammy also underscored the UK’s commitment to supporting BiH institutions and mechanisms in addressing ongoing crises.

The meeting also touched on the upcoming Berlin Process summit, which will be hosted by the United Kingdom this year, as well as contractual relations between the two countries and opportunities to enhance economic cooperation.
