Bosnia Presidency Chair Becirovic rejects new ethnic divisions, calls for systematic reform

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Presidency Chair Denis Becirovic issued a firm warning Monday in Sarajevo, stating that the era of internal divisions and ethnic partitioning is over. Addressing both domestic and international audiences, Becirovic emphasized that proposals for a "third entity" or further ethnic divisions are entirely unacceptable to the vast majority of citizens and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

His remarks served as a direct rebuttal to a recent panel held in Zagreb, where certain participants labelled Bosnia a "non-functional state" and advocated for ethnic restructuring. Becirovic countered this narrative by highlighting the nation’s legal commitment to non-discrimination and equal voting rights.
The Chair asserted that the primary mission for progressive forces in the country is to push for the implementation of European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rulings. According to him, these reforms are the essential bridge to securing full membership in the European Union and NATO.
Eliminating systemic discrimination through rule of law
Following a high-level meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, Becirovic reaffirmed the state's dedication to democracy and the rule of law. He stressed that the government is obligated to execute all ECHR judgments to dismantle the systemic discrimination currently embedded in the legal framework.
The ultimate goal, he noted, is to ensure that every citizen is treated as equal before the law, moving the country away from divisive ethnic politics and toward a unified, stable future within the European community.
