The president of the Bosnia's Republika Srpska entity, Milorad Dodik, today described as a "shameful act" Montenegro's support for the announced United Nations General Assembly resolution designating July 11 as International Srebrenica Genocide Remembrance Day, marking the events of 1995.

“Regarding Montenegro, of course, it's unpleasant for us, but we won't forget,” Dodik said to reporters in Banja Luka, adding that he hadn't expected Montenegro to “continue such a brutal policy toward Serbs,” especially after recognizing Kosovo's independence and its approach to Bosnia and Herzegovina, without accounting for the existence of Republika Srpska.

Dodik stated that Republika Srpska supports the Serbian community in Montenegro, which he claimed was “oppressed” during the rule of Milo Djukanovic, and said, “We see that even now the conditions and freedoms for our people in Montenegro have not improved.”

Dodik further remarked that Jasenovac and Srebrenica are not comparable and that “Serbs, especially from Republika Srpska, should avoid falling into that trap of comparison. That's how they aim to give significance to Srebrenica, rather than paying respect and tribute to those who suffered in Jasenovac. This must stop.”

In his view, the proposed resolution on Srebrenica is a “heavy document” that will remain permanently in the public's perception.

“And now we see those who would wash their consciences, and they act in this way. Republika Srpska does not accept this,” Dodik said.

He further suggested that the resolution has nothing to do with court judgments but is instead a “political platform aimed at destroying Republika Srpska.”

Bosnia's Presidency member from ranks of Serbs Zeljka Cvijanovic criticized the resolution on Srebrenica, stating that it was brought to a vote-counting process that “insulted all victims.”

“They did it secretly. Without consensus, breaking every possible procedure. They're changing the voting mechanism in the UN General Assembly to secure one more vote. This is truly an insult to all victims,” Cvijanovic said.
