Milorad Dodik, the President of Republika Srpska entity and the leader of the SNSD party, confirmed that he received invitation from People and Justice party leader Elmedin Konakovic to discuss constitutional changes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, noting that “Republika Srpska sees this as a direct instruction from US Ambassador in BiH.”

“He was talking about this in his public appearances over the last days. America, which is the most sensible one to election process, is interfering here in the election process,” Dodik told reporters on Thursday.

The leader of the SNSD, participant of talks on electoral reform with other state-level ruling coalition partners, called this an attempt to ruin the agreement reached by the political parties in power, refusing to speculate about possible topics of the meeting.

US Embassy slams latest talks on electoral reform: Proposal that says a lot about elections but very little about election integrity

“I will call to ask what is this about, why is it happening, what's the proposal. We know that the Constitution is very difficult. I think it is naïve to expect convening (a meeting) in this way and trying to do something. We are not ready to delete anything that means deleting of ethnic prefix,” Dodik underlined.

The statement comes days after the latest meeting on the reform of electoral reform on January 18. Following the meeting, HDZ BiH party leader Dragan Covic unveiled a document claiming that it was a proposal of changes to the Election Law agreed by the political leaders.

However, the US Embassy swiftly reacted, stating that implementation of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR)'s rulings is crucial for reform of electoral system, which means constitutional changes too.

Konakovic denied that there was a proposal that the Bosniak-civic parties agreed on and announced a new meeting, this time of all parliamentary parties to discuss changes to the Constitution of BiH.

In response to all developments that followed after the January 18 meeting, Dodik called on the partners in authority to “complete” what they agreed on.

“Let the American ambassador go, what does he have to do with it? They are unable to maintain a neutral electoral configuration and structure in America, and they are giving us lessons here about what we should or should not do,” Dodik stressed.
