The Chairman of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency, Sefik Dzaferovic, said that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's interference in the elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through his support for Milorad Dodik, is inappropriate and harmful to the democratic process in the country.
Dzaferovic made the statement after Orban expressed support for Dodik, who is currently one of the BiH Presidency members and is a candidate for President of BiH’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity in the upcoming elections. Orban said that Hungary considers the RS entity an “honorary neighbour” of his country.

“In addition to the fact that intervention in favour of a political option is problematic in itself, the manner in which it was done is also particularly controversial,” he said, arguing that Orban’s statement implies that he “brought Hungary and the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska to the same level.”
“Furthermore, the question of intentions arises if we know that it comes at the same moment when Dodik, after his visit to Moscow, gives open support to aggression against Ukraine and separatist referendums in Ukrainian regions. It is extremely dangerous for overall European security that one member of the European Union, even implicitly, feeds such dangerous tendencies in BiH and the Western Balkans. I invite Prime Minister Orban to think carefully about it,” Dzaferovic said.
Just as the various lower administrative units within Hungary are not a state, the RS entity is not a state, he stressed.
