Bosniak representative in the Assembly of Kosovo, Duda Balje, announced that the parliament voted for a Draft Law on freedom of movement with identity cards in the Western Balkans and urged Bosnia and Herzegovina to do the same.

“How much closer Bosnia is to me now,” Balje wrote on Facebook.

“Dear Council of Ministers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, respected MPs of the BiH Parliament, we are waiting for you to do the same,” she stated.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is, apart from Serbia, the only country in the region that does not recognize the independence of Kosovo, but it does recognise Kosovo passports as valid documents.

Until now, the citizens of Kosovo needed a visa to enter BiH and since 2014, the same applies to the citizens of BiH who want to travel to Kosovo.

At its session on February 8, the Government of Kosovo approved the agreement on movement using identity cards only, which was signed in November last year by the heads of diplomacy of the countries of the Western Balkans.

After it enters into force, the agreement will enable the citizens of Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina to travel to each other’s countries without visas.

The same agreement must be approved and ratified in BiH in order for this to happen.
