The migrant situation in Bosnia's north-western Una-Sana Canton has become complicated because the Cantonal authorities have backed out the agreement to move the migrants from Lipa to Bira camp, the country's Security Minister Selmo Cikotic said Sunday.
The Minister noted that the Mayor of Una-Sana Canton's administrative centre, Bihac, and other Cantonal ministers have backed out of a plan they themselves proposed several months back.
“They're now against Bira as a solution, regardless of the fact that there is room for over 3,000 migrants there. Now they're looking for other solutions within ‘Borici’ and ‘Sedra’ camps,” Cikotic said, adding that such solutions can not be made in a day.
According to him, the plan is for the “Lipa” camp, which is no longer legally in function, to be equipped for the long-term stay of migrants, but that it is not possible to start these activities until the Cantonal authorities displace the migrants who stayed there.
Cikotic also noted that Canton Sarajevo currently has more migrants than the Una-Sana Canton.
