The Parliamentary Network for Freedom of Religion and Belief in Southeast Europe (IPPFORB SEE) was formed in BiH’s capital on Friday, with the signing of the "Sarajevo Declaration".
The declaration was signed by parliament members from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Georgia, Kosovo, Romania and North Macedonia, who expressed their commitment to promoting freedom of religion and belief for all people through their work and institutions.
BiH House of Representatives member, Sabina Cudic, said that she is honored that the declaration was signed in Sarajevo, which has the reputation of the “Jerusalem of Europe”.
She said that Sarajevo is represents a crossroad, a warning, but also inspiration and hope for Europe and the world in terms of protecting freedom of religion and belief, and that she hopes that it will continue to be a leader in that respect.
Director of IPPFORB, Fernanda San Martin Carrasco, explained that the initiative gathers parliamentarians from 95 countries and that the organisation is pleased that the “Sarajevo Declaration” includes countries of Southeast Europe. She explained that the organization is dedicated to preventing discrimination and promoting diversity, which is evident from the political, religious and geographical aspects of its members.
