Chairman of the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Sasa Magazinovic, confirmed that a resolution on Bosnia and Herzegovina was adopted last night at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
Magazinovic explained to Fena that this resolution, which is periodically adopted as part of the monitoring process under which Bosnia and Herzegovina operates as a full member, was not a matter of whether it would be adopted but rather its content.
“I am very satisfied with the content, particularly as the resolution supports the UN General Assembly's Resolution on Srebrenica. There are positive elements as well as criticisms,” said Magazinovic.
He noted that the resolution praised Bosnia and Herzegovina's progress on the European path and the efforts of the new authorities. However, it also criticized the authorities in Republika Srpska, both the ruling and opposition parties, for failing to implement decisions and for attempts to obstruct the work of the Constitutional Court.
“The resolution calls on authorities to work on eliminating discrimination in the electoral and educational processes. It also clearly emphasizes the importance of sustaining public services, combating hate speech, and more,” he added.
Magazinović believes the document positively impacts the authorities by recognizing their efforts on the European path and taking steps in the fight against corruption. However, it also outlines a list of tasks that the Council of Europe expects from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He expressed satisfaction with the engagement of the BiH delegation and noted that there was no conflict of opinions during discussions, as representatives from different countries reached similar conclusions regarding the need to implement rulings and start or resume constitutional and electoral reforms.
“The resolution appropriately sends messages to BiH politicians. I believe this resolution is very useful, as those who understand multilateral organizations know that it will be forwarded to the foreign ministries of all Council of Europe member states, effectively shaping their approach toward Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Magazinovic concluded.
