Regional Academy for Democratic Development (ADD), a Serbia-based think-tank, addressed the Director-General of the Radio Television of Serbia Dragan Bujosevic and the Editor-in-Chief of the Cultural and Artistic Program Vladimir Kecmanovic, on Sunday, with a request to broadcast the award-winning film “Quo Vadis, Aida?” which was awarded the best European film in 2021 at the most prestigious film festival in Europe.

Apart from Jasmila Zbanic, who won the award for the best director in Europe, the Novi Sad actress and professor of acting at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, Jasna Djuricic, who plays the main role in this film, was named the best European actress.

The letter states that it is time for the national broadcaster to recognise the world-renowned artistic value of this film masterpiece that deals with the recent past of Serbia and features a great number of actors from Serbia, and to enable Serbian citizens to see it. It emphasises that it is unnecessary to mention how much such a gesture would contribute to peacebuilding, reconciliation and dealing with the past, especially having in mind the growing glorification of war crimes and war criminals in Serbian society.

ADD stated that this is an opportunity for the Radio Television of Serbia to show that it foster values that will oppose hate speech and war rhetoric which are rising two decades after the end of the last armed conflict in the region,

“In the hope that the citizens of Serbia will have the opportunity to watch the film and assess its importance, we thank all the media who will support us in this appeal,” the thinktank wrote.
