Associations gathering war victim families from the Srebrenica and Zepa regions urged the international community's envoy in Bosnia and Herzegovina to impose the law on genocide denial and expressed their support for everything he has done so far.

This is the second call from such associations in a short period of time addressed towards the international envoy in Bosnia, who oversees the peace implementation process.

The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide and the Association of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves emphasised what they called the High Representative's “persistence and continuity of calling out all those undermining the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” recalling that all his regular reports to the UN Security Council sparked “panic” with those denying genocide.

“Unfortunately, the international community's support was missing in the recent period so Inzko himself had no support to pass important decisions. Lately, there is significant support of the international community. Obviously, the numerous reports to the Security Council reached those who make decisions,” said the associations.

The Office of the High Representative (OHR) was established to oversee the implementation of the peace agreement that ended the 1992-95 Bosnian war. The High Representative among others holds the special powers to sanction officials and impose laws.

The institution is set for the closure once the Peace Implementation Council decides the country has become fully stable or, officially, a “peaceful, viable state irreversibly on course for European integration.”

The associations that addressed the call towards the High Rep on Monday deem that the law on genocide denial would be the greatest achievement in the work of the OHR.
