Vucic rejects ‘Sarajevo Safari’ allegations, says AI was used to doctor rifle photo

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has denied allegations linking him to the so-called “Sarajevo Safari”, claiming that those making the accusations got the timeline wrong and used artificial intelligence to manipulate a photograph of him.

Speaking publicly about the claims, Vucic said the allegations about his alleged presence on the hills above Sarajevo during the war were false and based on fabricated material.
“I have 120 people who know what I was doing every day. They missed the timing by eight months regarding when I was on Pale,” Vucic said. “They make up whatever comes to mind. Using artificial intelligence, they added a rifle to my photo, but they made a mistake and put it on my left shoulder. Anyone who is right-handed would never hold a rifle on the left shoulder.”
The term “Sarajevo Safari” refers to longstanding allegations that, during the siege of Sarajevo, foreign visitors were allegedly brought to positions held by Bosnian Serb forces around the city and allowed to shoot at civilians.
The story, which resurfaced in public debate late last year, has been discussed for years but has never resulted in a clear judicial outcome.
While Vucic dismissed the accusations as fabricated, the broader controversy continues to raise questions about accountability and the lack of legal resolution over claims linked to one of the darkest chapters of the 1992–1995 Bosnian war.
