Wildfire near Neum threatens homes, situation described as “alarming”

Firefighters from Neum have been joined by teams from Mostar, Capljina, and Croatia’s Dubrovnik coast, including Slano. Local residents are also actively helping in the firefighting efforts.

According to Neum’s municipal mayor, Dragan Jurkovic, reinforcements are arriving from Dubrovnik and Putnikovic. He confirmed that an air tractor has been engaged since this morning, alongside ground crews. Jurkovic added that a request has been submitted for a military helicopter from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and expressed hope that the procedure will soon be finalized so the aircraft can assist in battling what he described as a “catastrophic fire” in the municipality of Neum, local outlet Neum.online reported.
