Prosecutors in Bosnia’s Serb-majority region have on Friday raised charges against three people for the murder of businessman Slavisa Krunic and his bodyguard.

The three suspects are Benedi Djukanovic, Emilio Baldo and Rodoljub Gajic.

Krunic, the owner of several enterprises, including security agency ‘Sector Security’ and bakery chain ‘Zitopeka’, was killed on April 22 this year alongside his bodyguard in what appeared to be an ambush near his house in the suburbs of Banja Luka, the administrative centre of Republika Srpska (RS), one of Bosnia’s two semi-autonomous entities.

One of the attackers, Zeljko Kovacevic, was also killed in the shootout.

Djukanovic, Baldo and Kovacevic allegedly waited for Krunic in front of his home and sprayed his vehicle with bullets as it was slowing down.

Prosecutors believe that Rodoljub Gajic, an employee at ‘Sector Security d.o.o.’ who was tasked to guard Krunic’s wife and children, helped in executing the plan. He allegedly informed Kovacevic, whom he owed money to, about Krunic’s movements.

The suspects are currently in pre-trial detention and the charges are now to be confirmed by the Banja Luka District Court.
