BiH Prosecutor’s Office drops case against Dodik, Viskovic, and Stevandic

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has dropped the investigation against former Republika Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik, former Prime Minister Radovan Viskovic, and RS National Assembly Speaker Nenad Stevandic, who were suspected of attempting to undermine the country’s constitutional order.

The investigation was launched in December last year, and in March the Prosecutor’s Office announced that it was conducting inquiries related to laws adopted by the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, which were deemed unconstitutional and aimed at weakening state institutions.
The probe intensified after Milorad Dodik signed decrees in Banja Luka enacting legislation that banned the operation of key state institutions, including the Court and Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), and the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (VSTV), on the territory of Republika Srpska.
The Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina later annulled all disputed laws, declaring them unconstitutional. Under pressure from the United States, the National Assembly of Republika Srpska subsequently repealed the same legislation in October.

The withdrawal of the laws led to the lifting of sanctions previously imposed on Milorad Dodik and several of his close associates.
