Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic arrived in Sarajevo on Monday evening, where he will be joined by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte in talks with Bosnian officials on Tuesday.

On the first day of his working visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Plenkovic met separately with the representatives of the largest religious communities in that country, Bosnian Archbishop Tomo Vuksic of Vrhbosna, head of the Islamic community Husein Kavazovic and Orthodox Metropolitan Hrizostom of Dabrosna.

On Tuesday, together with Von der Leyen and Rutte, the Croatian Prime Minister will have separate meetings with the members of the BiH Presidency, the Chairperson of the BiH Council of Ministers Borjana Kristo and her deputies, and with the leaders of the BiH Parliament of Representatives and the House of Peoples.

The officials are coming to BiH to encourage the country's authorities to implement reforms that are a prerequisite for the European Council to approve the opening of accession negotiations with that country in March, Croatian news agency Hina reported.

The leaders of the parties that make up the ruling coalition in BiH last week, after several months of blockades, reached an agreement in principle to send proposals for several reform laws to the parliamentary procedure, and on Monday the leader of the HDZ BiH, Dragan Covic, presented an agreed proposal for changes to the electoral law, according to which, in addition to technical improvements, the method of electing a Croat member of the BiH Presidency was also presented.

Covic also announced the rapid adoption of the state budget for 2024, as well as laws on courts, including the resolution of the status of foreign judges in the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
