The traditional march on the “Path of Death” was organised on Saturday in memory of those who were taken away from the town of Klisa and massacred in 1992.
On this day, June 1, 1992, the residents of the besieged town of Klisa had to walk this path. Boys, young men and old men were separated from their loved ones and taken to the killing grounds. Many were found in the Crni Vrh mass grave, the largest mass grave in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“On June 1, 1992, I was not among those being taken, but one of those who saw it all. Since 1999, we have been trying to maintain a culture of remembering what we have experienced. Several thousand people passed through that path alone. We still haven't found 244 people, including my brother”, said local imam Senajid Alic from Klisa.
Suada Selimovic also witnessed what happened 32 years ago with her husband and three children and 21 family members.
“I had an eight-month-old baby then. In the convoy, I went down to Bijeli Potok, it was a horror. At Bijeli Potok, they separated my husband. After 16 years, I found my husband's remains, we are still looking for the rest. We can never forget the horror we survived. This path was like a corridor for us, and armed men stopped us every few meters, searched us, and some even hit us, we didn't even know where we were going or what was waiting for us. They separated all the men at Bijeli Potok, and sent the women to Memic in trucks”, she said.
The opening of the Bijeli Potok martyr's memorial is also planned for Saturday and a collective funeral for the victims from Zvornik at the Memorial Center in Kalesija.
