The Center Against Trafficking in Works of Art has expanded the database of missing works of art that Bosnia and Herzegovina is looking for, from the previous 188 works of art to a total of 234.
Based on the submitted information, 46 new works of art have been stolen in an earlier period from the prominent Bosnian painter Jusuf Jusa Niksic, and added to the overall list.
Out of those 46 paintings, 45 were stolen from the artist's studio in 2013, while one work disappeared during the war period.
The robbery of the studio of Jusuf Jusa Niksic took place in Mostar on the night between December 28 and 29, 2013.
The incident was reported to the Mostar Police Administration on 29 December 2013 year, and the case is currently handled by the Prosecutor's Office of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton.
According to an estimate from 2013, these were artistic paintings whose value was half a million marks (cca 250,000 euro), while today the market value of these stolen works is believed to be much higher.
Painter Jusuf Jusa Niksic was one of the greats of the art scene of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the former Yugoslavia. He was one of the leaders of the Mostar art circle, a member of the Association of Fine Artists of Bosnia and Herzegovina and, until 1991, a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo.
In this way, the Center Against Trafficking in Works of Art continues its activities with the aim of raising the awareness of the Bosnian public about the importance of the return and restitution of stolen works of art, which are extremely important for the cultural identity of Bosnian society.
