Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed he would hold a rally in Sarajevo after several European countries banned Turkish politicians from holding pre-election rallies on their territories, Turkish media reported.
Erdogan said upon the return from South Korea on May 3 that “in an environment where some countries are debating whether to allow us to campaign, we prefer to come together with our citizens in Bosnia.”
“We will come together with our citizens from European countries in a hall in Bosnia,” Turkish daily 'Hurriyet' quoted Erdogan as saying.
The news about Erdogan’s intentions to hold a rally in Bosnia came amidst the election campaign in Turkey, which is preparing for the snap elections Erdogan called on April 18.
Several countries including Germany, Austria and the Netherlands earlier said they would not allow Turkish politicians to hold pre-election campaigning, citing public order concerns.
Turkish Embassy in Bosnia earlier stated for N1 it did not have official information about the President Erdogan's visit to Sarajevo.
