Bosnian 'Werkstatt' duo explains how their cooperation with Beyonce happened

After a made-in-Bosnia sweater, which ended up in the prestigious Vogue magazine, Bosnian designers made it to the world stage again with unique pieces of jewellery worn by American music star, Beyonce in her most recent video for the Lion King film.

Ajla Saric and Lejla Nuhic, two talented girls behind ‘Werkstatt’ label, did not believe the singer would put their products on even after they were contacted by Belgrade fashion designer Boris Kargotic, who asked two of them to design a special piece of jewellery for Beyonce.

“Her team of stylists send him (Kargotic) dimensions which he forwarded to us, then we used various methods to make something we never did before. This actually looked different from what she wore in the video, but everything was designed on her measures,” said Lejla, speaking for N1’s Scena magazine.

“It still seems surreal and I can’t believe it. I’m watching the video and trying to understand what’s going on,” she added.

Ajla started the business in 2007 and for the past four years, she and Lejla have been designing rings, earrings and bracelets made of zinc and brass, which made them recognisable not only in Bosnia but in the whole region.

“I am happy to be working on this with my colleagues because our styles complement each other. She says for something I would finish in a different way: ‘Let’s leave it like that’ and later on, it looks great to me,” said Saric.

They have no special wishes when it comes to other celebrities, their only wish is to see their designs are worn by Beyonce again.
