It is now clearer than ever that Bosnia's top judicial institution is in need of serious reform, EU Delegation told N1 following the announcement of the resignation of the head of this institution, Milan Tegeltija, on Thursday.

“We take note that the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) President has today announced his resignation. It is now clearer than ever that the HJPC needs serious reform. Pending a new law on HJPC as required by the Opinion key priorities, the adoption of integrity amendments to the HJPC law is a litmus test for the credibility of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s commitment to reform the judiciary in line with European standards,” EU Delegation told N1.

Milan Tegeltija, the President of the institution which appoints and sanctions the country's prosecutors and judges, held a press conference Thursday where he said he would resign in the next several days, adding that he and his family have felt threatened ever since he took office.
He faced criticism over the past few weeks coming from both the HJPC and international institutions in the country after media published an audio recording allegedly containing his voice which put him into the middle of an influence-peddling affair.

EU Delegation concluded saying the EU urges the members of the Council to take urgent and decisive action in order to restore public confidence in its work.
