Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will meet this week the representatives of Bosnia's Serb-dominated region Republika Srpska and the leaders of its political parties, learns N1. Reportedly, the topic of the meeting will be the appointment of the new international community envoy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which the RS leadership objects.
The meeting is set to take place in Belgrade on June 2.
It was earlier reported that Republika Srpska President Zeljka Cvijanovic addressed Vucic asking for a meeting that would be attended by the entity leadership and its political parties, and which would discuss the appointment of the new international community's High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt.
The leaders of the opposition PDP and SDS parties Branislav Borenovic and Mirko Sarovic confirmed they would attend the meeting.
Although the Peace Implementation Council (PIC), the body that oversees the implementation of the peace process in BiH, formally appointed Schmidt, Milorad Dodik, the Serb member of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency, said Republika Srpska “does not accept” this appointment.
Dodik, who openly advocates the closure of the Office of the High Representative, argued that the PIC did not have the power to appoint the official and that it was done in a “suspicious” way.
“The person they supposedly appointed as their High Representative will not be acceptable and Republika Srpska will not accept him or any of his competencies,” Dodik said, urging the public to reject Schmidt's appointment as well.
