The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, has begun a two-day official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing the importance of the country and the Balkan region becoming part of the European Union and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Pavel cautioned about the potential consequences if integration into the EU does not occur.
“If these countries remain in a grey zone, it only benefits those who wish to provoke unrest in Europe. I firmly believe that Bosnia and Herzegovina and other Balkan countries, once part of EU institutions and Euro-Atlantic structures, will enhance regional stability and security. This will positively affect the stability of the region and Europe as a whole. These are mutual benefits for both the region and Europe,” Pavel stated.
The Czech president delivered a clear message of encouragement.
“I wish your country much goodwill to overcome internal disputes and achieve the goal supported by the majority of the population, which is membership in the EU and Euro-Atlantic integration,” he added.
Pavel pointed to Bosnia's complex political system as one of the reasons for the slow progress toward integration.
“Despite the complexity of the system, what I would commend is the shared will to pursue the path of EU integration. That is very important,” he explained.
