Scores of Sarajevo’s citizens once again gathered in city centre for the second protest under the name ‘The Fight for Life’ to express their dissatisfaction with the way state authorities have been handling the coronavirus pandemic, especially with the lack of COVID-19 vaccines, and to demand resignations from top officials.
The citizens have blocked the main street, near the building of Bosnia’s Parliamentary Assembly, where there is currently a strong police presence.
The first ‘The Fight for Life’ protest took place on April 6.
The organizers of the protest said they demand a new Council of Ministers of BiH and Government of the country’s Federation (FBiH) entity to be appointed, which would then present a clear and implementable action plan to combat the coronavirus pandemic and crisis management within 14 days.
“I am here today for the same reason I was here for the first time. It is important to show our dissatisfaction. It is important to show this to the people who lie to us and divert attention from very important things, from things that bring life and death into question,” one of the participants told N1.
He argued that Bosnia’s politicians are trying to divert attention away from the issue to divisions in the country and added that “citizens of BiH are dying every day precisely because of the negligence of those people who tell lies.”
“Today they are showing us that our lives are not as important as theirs, this is something we must not permit,” said another participant.
The staff of the Sarajevo University Faculty of Philosophy have expressed their support for the protest in an open letter.
The protesters also had a minute of silence for all the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic.
