Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic denied on Friday that he ever shot at Sarajevo - a story that has been circulating in the city for decades, mostly prompted by his nationalistic wartime rhetoric.
In an interview for FACE TV, speaking about his role in the wars of the 1990s, Vucic said he is aware of stories about him having shot at Sarajevo with a sniper as he reads “nonsense” about himself every day.
“I can't listen to nonsense and lies. I didn’t shoot, but I was at Pale, doing my job. I listened to all this and I did not answer. You cannot prove anything to malicious people,” Vucic said.
”Just give me a break with stories of those who live now a life of 20 years ago. In Belgrade they can’t beat me because they live in ‘96 i ‘97.”, he added.
Asked if he changed since then, Vucic said that “only donkeys don’t change.”
“I changed the party and told everything to my people. People have the right to doubt whatever they want but you do not change your country, gender, name and surname and you do not change what you root for,” he said.
Vucic visited Sarajevo last week and delivered a number of vaccines to BiH's semi-autonomous Federation (FBiH) entity which so far has not obtained any. He said he was happy that he could donate the vaccines that could save someone.
