BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik said at the meeting with the President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, that the EU should start accession negotiations with Bosnia.
Earlier in October, the EC recommended granting BiH EU Candidate status.
However, Dodik said that this is not enough.
He argued that granting the country a status that would allow it to begin negotiations on EU membership would “make sense”, noting that the EU could keep BiH in the candidate status “for the next 60 years.”
Von der Leyen arrived in Sarajevo on Friday and met with the three BiH Presidency members.
Speaking to journalists following the meeting, Dodik complained about the other two BiH Presidency members, as well as the High Representative of the international community, Christian Schmidt, who is tasked with overseeing the civilian implementation of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement in the country.
He said that he proposed that Schmidt should be declared persona non grata, but that the other two members of the Presidency rejected it.
“That speaks volumes about their hypocrisy because they say one thing in public – that what Schmidt imposed is undesirable and unacceptable, and they won't accept my proposal,” Dodik told reporters.
He also complained that the other two Presidency members rejected his proposal for BiH to join the Open Balkans initiative, as well as to support a project to construct a gas pipeline in the country.
“The Presidency is a “black hole”, not an institution that makes decisions,” said Dodik.
