Court rejects pleas of convicts in ‘Ventilator’ case

Bosnian State Court rejected on Thursday the pleas of Fahrudin Solak and Fikret Hodzic for the postponement of execution of prison sentence after they were convicted in the case of controversial purchase of ventilators during the Covid pandemic along with now former prime minister of Bosnia's Federation entity (FBiH) Fadil Novalic.

Novalic also submitted the plea for the postponement of execution of prison sentence but has not get response yet.

“We asked for the postponement for certain reasons and we are waiting for the Court's decision,” his attorney Vasvija Vidovic told N1.

Former FM Novalic, Solak, suspended head of the Federation's Civil Protection Administration and Hodzic, a businessman, were sentenced late January in the ‘Ventilator’ case i.e. illegal activities in the purchase of ventilators during the pandemic.

In May 2023, Novalic was sentenced to four, Hodzic to five and Solak to six years of prison in the first-instance verdict. The Court upheld the verdict in January 2024.

In an urgent session on Thursday, the FBiH removed Solak from the post of the head of the Federation's Civil Protection Administration.
