The leadership of the main Bosniak party in Bosnia condemned Serbia’s “frequent usurpatory attacks on the resources of Bosnia and Herzegovina” and urged the international community and the EU to introduce sanctions against tripartite Presidency Chairman, Milorad Dodik, over his “secessionist threats.”

The Main Board Party of Democratic Action (SDA) presented a series of conclusions from its session on Wednesday.

The SDA welcomed the statements of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC), the international community body monitoring Bosnia’s peace process, which expressed support for Bosnia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and path towards EU and NATO membership.

It warned that “absence or belated efforts to take decisive and concrete steps against retrograde policymakers could deepen the political crisis and ultimately cause destabilization.”

The party called on the PIC members states, as well as EU countries to introduce sanctions against the Chairman of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency and its Serb member, Milorad Dodik over his “secessionist threats,” as well as against “anyone else who endangers the Dayton Peace Agreement.”

Dodik is also the leader of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), the ruling party in Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity. He has often advocated for the secession of the semi-autonomous entity from Bosnia.

The SDA also welcomed the activities of US President Joseph Biden and the announcement of the US expanding its blacklist.

The party leadership also condemned the “frequent usurpatory attacks by the Republic of Serbia on the resources of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

It argued that “illegal arrangements” regarding the construction of hydropower plants on the Drina River by Serbia and the RS, as well as Serbia’s construction of an airport in the southern Bosnian town of Trebinje, represent a “drastic violation of the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

The SDA said that it will take all possible steps to protect the interests of Bosnia and urged the Constitutional Court to rule on a request submitted by MPs to check whether the Drina hydropower plant project is in line with the Constitution.

“The SDA Main Board draws the attention of the domestic and international public to the fact that the remains of 43 (war) victims were found at the Buk Bijela site, where the cornerstone was laid for the hydropower power plant. Considering that there is a justified suspicion that the remains of an even larger number of victims may be hidden at that location, we call on the Prosecutor's Office of BiH to act as soon as possible upon the report of the Association of Victims of Foca ‘92. – 95, suspends construction and investigates the site,” the party said.
