The United States is ready to help Bosnia in the fight against corruption but we do not want to through our money into a bottomless pit, US Congressman Scott Perry said for Voice of America, Fena news agency reported Monday.

Perry, who served in Bosnia as a helicopter pilot, expressed his concerns about the level of political control over the country's judiciary whose system was envisaged and financed by the US, and said he wants to certain that every penny would be spent wisely.

“I'm really not familiar with hundreds of millions that went to the judicial system. According to my information, we spent ten million dollars over the past five years on various attempts to support the establishment of a western-style judicial system that would be free of corruption,” Perry said.

He also added that they tried to help the Bosnian people to establish their own system that would meet their needs but also respect the principles of independence and the fight against corruption.

“The program's run its course. Unfortunately, it does not appear that it has met its goals, but we were heavily dependent on the Bosnian government to do more on this issue,” he said.

Asked if he would like to be a Bosnian politician, Perry said he did not believe he could function in such circumstances.

“One must have moral values to do what's good and I repeat, to be in the service of the people,” Perry said.

Congressman Scott Perry also said he did not have a personal driver, to drive his car that had travelled about 434,000 kilometres and that he does not to receive a separate living allowance.
